Author Guidelines

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Manuscripts for publication should be no longer than 25 pages in A4 format, including a limited number of figures, tables, captions and references (only those quoted in the paper), and a summary in English and Polish.
Manuscripts should be submitted as MS Word files. Font size 12 should be used, and the text should be formatted with double line spacing.
Figures should be uploaded as .jpg, .png or .tiff files, in at least 300 dpi resolution, 1:1 scale (without compression).
Pages should be numbered sequentially, starting from the title page.
The manuscript should be written in English.
Define each abbreviation and introduce it in parentheses the first time it is used. Do not start sentences with an abbreviation.
Standard metric units (SI) should be used for all values and symbols.
References should be cited in the manuscript text by a number in square brackets.
References should be arranged in the numerical order in which individual items are quoted in the manuscript.
The manuscript should be organized, in order, as Title Page, Text of the Paper, and Illustrative Materials (embedded either in the main text or at the end of the manuscript). The standard editorial format should be used.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE MANUSCRIPT CONTENTS

First name and last name of authors, in order, reflecting their contribution to the manuscript.
For co-authored manuscripts include the corresponding author’s details (mobile phone number and e-mail address).
Title of paper in Polish and English.
Authors’ affiliations with addresses, full names of scientific organizations, name of their heads (including titles and degrees).
For a synopsis of a doctoral dissertation additionally provide the full name of the department and university where the doctorate was granted, titles, degrees and full name of the supervisor, and the number of pages, figures, tables, photographs and cited references.
Text of the paper:
Abstract:
The summary should be written in English. It should be structured into sections: an introduction, materials and methods, results, and conclusions, and should contain a concise summary of the paper limited to 200–250 words, with an emphasis on the novel or significant aspects of the research.
Keywords:
Provide 5–8 terms listed in the MeSH database, different from the words used in the title of the paper.

Introduction:
Present an outline of the problem and describe the objective of the study or research, giving references to relevant publications. The aim of the study should be defined at the end of the introduction.
Materials and methods:
Describe clearly the choice of material, and research and statistical methods. Results: The results should be presented in the manuscript in a logical order. Repetitions of all data from tables and figures are unnecessary. However, the most important research findings should be emphasized.
Discussion:
Emphasize all novel, and the most significant, aspects of the undertaken research, including conclusions. Avoid repetitions of information contained in the Introduction and Results. Confront your own findings with those of other authors quoted in references who carried out similar research.
Conclusions:
The final conclusions should be concise and presented against the objectives specified in the Introduction.
References:
References should be arranged in the numerical order in which individual items are quoted in the manuscript. Detailed instructions for presenting references are available at:

Each reference should start on a new line, and must not be repeated. Indicate all the surnames of the authors with first name initials if not more than six. Otherwise, indicate the surnames of the first six authors, adding et al. at the end. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the Index Medicus (Medline) format.

Illustrative materials:
Illustrative materials include figures (diagrams, charts, photographs) and tables provided with captions (below figures, above tables). Figures and/or tables should be numbered and cited sequentially in the text (in parentheses) or at the end of the manuscript. Use separate numbers for figures and tables. Photomicrographs should have internal scale markers. Symbols, arrows or letters should contrast with the background. Use black and white unless colour is necessary for clear presentation. Captions and other internal information in figures and tables should be provided in English. Abbreviations used in figures and tables should be explained in superscriptions.
All figures with captions should be editable.
Manuscripts in electronic format should be submitted via the journal website (http://ojs.pum.edu.pl/pomjlifesci/author/submit/) or by e-mail to [address], together with a Declaration of Authorship, completed by the main author, and a signed check list [click to download], in paper or electronic format.
Please note that the editorial office does not return any submitted materials.

Co-authors detail, in percentage terms, their contribution to the preparation of the manuscript, and specify the tasks they were responsible for.
